BAN VAN COMMUNITY - BASED TOURISM

Ban Van (Van hamlet) is a small village near Mai Chau that has just started tourism. Although not as crowded as Ban Lac (Lac Hamlet), Ban Van impresses with the terraced fields that follow each other on both sides of the road to the village. Ban Van is one of the villages associated with the unique traditional culture of the people in the Northwest highlands. This place is one of the rare villages that still preserve the particular cultural features of the ethnic people in Mai Chau.

Ban Van (Mai Chau district) currently has 94 households with 376 people, of which Thai people account for 99% and divide into five inter-family groups according to production teams. The stilt houses in Ban Van are built in the traditional style combined with the comforts of modern furniture to make visitors feel comfortable and have exciting experiences in a real ethnic stilt house.

Stilt houses are built close to each other. Each home has a clean vegetable garden and the food is sourced from it so visitors can be completely assured of food hygiene and safety.

When coming to Van village, travelers can see the stilt houses looming beside the bamboo groves, the terraced fields winding around the village, and the green corn fields and cassava fields that create a natural poetic scene. When walking around the village, visitors will view the people's daily life and the smiles and friendly eyes of the people in the highlands.

In the evening, beside a simple rice tray, guests will enjoy the flavor of Can wine and view the Xoe dance of graceful Thai girls. The music mixed with the dance steps will help travelers forget all their fatigue, then find a sense of relaxation and peace.

At the beginning of the year, visitors to Ban Van will be able to participate in folk games such as "Tó mặc lẻ", tug of war, "Keng loong",... and many others that the local government restores to enrich the cultural and spiritual life of Thai people.

In January and late July in Mai Chau is Mua nuoc do (the season of pouring water). The fields will be filled with water to prepare for the new sowing. At this time, the whole Mai Chau valley appears like a "giant mirror" emitting a sparkling light in the sunlight. Many photographers' favorite time when coming to Mai Chau is this time.

March, April, May, August and September are when the green rice season in Mai Chau brings peace and relaxation. Travelors will be immersed in the green space, away from the noisy city.

The ripe rice season is the first half of July and the end of October when Mai Chau brings the most splendid and impressive beauty. In addition, traveling to Mai Chau and taking photos of the ripe rice season has become a trend many young people have come to in recent years.

In 2019, the Mai Chau district highland market model was implemented by the People's Committee of Mai Chau district, bringing the model to promote national cultural identity and attract tourists. The market takes place every Sunday at the district center stadium, becoming a destination for domestic and international tourists to visit and shop.

To diversify engaging activities, Mai Chau "Highland Fair" recreates many traditional festivals of the Thai and Hmong ethnic groups, organizes musical performances, dances, and musical instrument ethnic concerts ... at the last market of each month. On the other hand, market activities occur regularly at the central stadium, fully meeting the conditions of space, the convenience of traffic, travel, ensuring security, order, and environmental sanitation.

When visitors and customers arrive at the fair, they will be comfortable visiting and purchasing at these shops. It is arranged scientifically and logically according to each commodity and selling area, such as cuisine, fresh food, highland agricultural products, orchids, ornamental plants, agricultural supplies, clothes, household appliances...

The busiest place at the market is the area that sells local agricultural products. H'mong people come down from Hang Kia, Pa Co, Co Luong, Xam Khoe, Mai Hich, from Noong Luong, Pu Bin, Tan Son, Tan Mai, Phuc San to bring their local products such as kale, native tangerines, taro, glutinous corn, purple garlic,...

Up to now, through dozens of sessions, Mai Chau Highland Market is regularly held on Sundays in anticipation of many people, especially domestic and international tourists.
