PA CO COMMUNE

Pa Co is a mountainous commune of Mai Chau district (Hoa Binh), located at an altitude of about 1500 meters above sea level, 40km from the center of Mai Chau district.

Pa Co is located in the middle of Hang Kia - Pa Co nature reserve, the climate here has two distinct seasons: rainy and dry seasons. In summer, the average temperature is about 22 degrees. Pa Co is home of the Mong people, who account for 99% of the population. This place preserves intact the cultural values as well as traditional occupations of the Mong people such as craft weaving, brocade embroidery, indigo dyeing, beeswax painting, forging, etc. 

The natural landscape in Pa Co contains the wild beauty of the great shimmering combination among forest, mountains, and water. Arriving here, visitors seem to enter a different world - not as loud as the outside world. People and nature here are extremely gentle and the pleasant weather is one more impressive thing here. The zigzag slopes, the green tea hills, the low houses of Mong people, all make this place a peaceful and serene look.

Tourists can visit Tat Nang waterfall and take a bath in Chieng Yen stream when coming to Pa Co in Mai Chau. Hiding behind the green rice terraces, the Tat Nang waterfall flows all year round. It is a source of water for the paddy fields and food for thought for far-away visitors.

The waterfall is over 100 meters high, divided into 3 floors, surrounded by lush trees, visitors will be immersed in the harmony of the waterfall sound and the sound of wild birds, enjoy the unspoiled nature and cool stream, listen to stories about the legendary lovers.

Chieng Yen hot spring is very different from others of its kind. It is not planned as a professional service area. The hot spring runs from the mountain with an average temperature of 35°- 40° Celsius. It is embanked to create a 50m2 pool for people to have a hot bath.

In Phu Mau village, visitors will be able to visit and take photos, learn about the architecture of stilt houses, traditional costumes, enjoy nature, and make friends with people here. Besides, the kids will experience exciting activities such as hunting, running, learning to hunt wild chicken, comfortably playing at the green tea hill. One more thing, they are taught by ethnic women here to paint with beeswax - a traditional painting here.

Pa Co fair, although taking place once a week on Sunday, it is always crowded. The market sells everything, coming here tourists will be "overwhelmed" by a range of products from agricultural products, livestock, fabrics, brocade, farm tools to even household appliances, electronics, music discs, cosmetics, etc. When the fog was still spread all over the forest and mountain, H'Mong people in Mai Chau upland eagerly went to the market. The highland market here is not only a place to buy, sell, and exchange goods, but also a place that people in highland areas meet each other.

According to statistics, from 2018 to now, Pa Co commune has welcomed more than 5,000 visitors, of which international visitors account for over 60%. This is a place with many potentials and advantages to develop tourism year-round, so promoting, attracting investors to develop tourism, improving product quality, changing appearance and the economic structure for this commune are necessary and urgent tasks for Hoa Binh province.
