LAC VILLAGE – MAI CHÂU DISTRICT
Lac village is a popular tourist destination with domestic and foreign tourists. Lying neatly in Mai Chau valley of Hoa Binh province, it is the residence of Thai people, formerly known as Muong Mun. The Thai live in a crowded, prosperous and retain traditional cultural features such as stilt houses, dining activities. The formation and development of tourism is started from the beauty in the cultural life.
On the National Road No. 6 towards Son La about 130km from Hanoi, to Tong Dau junction, then turn left to the National Road No. 15, about 2.5km from Mai Chau town, you will reach Lac village - the place where Business Insider magazine of the USA voted as one of the 10 most interesting destinations in the world.
Lac village in Mai Chau, Hoa Binh is over 700 years, there are 129 households with 539 people in the village. It includes 3 main ethnic groups living together, in which Thai people accounts for 98.2%. Previously, the villagers lived on rice cultivation and brocade weaving. Later, the hidden beauty of Lac village was gradually discovered by visitors. In 1993, the People's Committee of Mai Chau district officially proposed the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province to allow tourists to stay overnight in the village. Since then, the name of Lac village has been known widely.
At present, in Lac village, there are 74 households registering to do business in tourist services, homestay model. Each house is numbered, all of them are tall, clean, and kept the traditional architecture of ancient stilt houses. There are full of blankets, cushions, pillows, etc. in the house. People in the village still promote traditional handicraft weaving imbued with national cultural identities such as brocade towels, brocade shirts, Thai skirts, wristbands, purses, bows, crossbows, buffalo horns, buffalo horns, etc. as souvenirs for visitors.
Besides resting in the stilt houses, visitors can participate in some activities with performance groups such as the traditional dance of Thai people, bamboo dancing, drinking wine at the homestay or community campfire yard. Visitors also can buy souvenirs such as brocade scarf, shirts or having bamboo-tubed rice, grill food in the households of the village. There are two ways to visit the village. You can take a tram to go to villages, caves and market or you can rent a bike or motorbike to explore Lac village.
Lac village is now a popular tourist area, it is not a crowded and magnificent place, there are no delicacies but rustic, natural and friendly. Tourists also have to admit that “Lac village has a harmony between tradition and modern culture, people do not attract tourists, security and order are guaranteed, people have solidarity and high community”.
